If you are a parent, you've been there. You look into your child's room only to find a huge mess! Toys are evrywhere, dresser drawers are hanging open, filled to the top with clothes, toys, and who knows what else. Artwork is scattered on the floor or tacked on the walls in a disorganized fashion. You can't even see the floor because of all the toys and clothes lying around!
It seems as though there is no way to keep your child's room neat and tidy. Have no fear! These handy tips will give you some ideas:
1. Hooks, hooks and more hooks! Hang up stuffed toys or dolls on the wall if there is absolutely no space anywhere else. Small buckets with small items or little doodads inside can be hung up on the hooks as well.
2. If you have room, a toy box or giant container with lids(for older children) and without lids (for younger children, as it is easier for them to access their belongings)are helpful for toys. You can even use several to organize the toys into groups. Each particular group of toy would have its own container. (Be sure that young children are not able to get trapped inside them)
3. Children just love their artwork! What do you do when you run out of room on the refrigerator? Put the artwork in large freezer bags and tack the freezer bag on the wall. This way, you can change which picture to put in front for people to see. Another idea for artwork is to stretch a piece of yarn across the room and clip the artwork to it.
4. If your children have many baseball caps, stuffed toys, baseball cards, and the like, hang a ribbon from the ceiling. Use colourful clothespins to clip these items to the ribbon.
5. Shoe bags with many pockets that can be hung on the back of the door are excellent for storage. Small stuffed animals, dinky cars, baseball or hockey cards, crayons, markers, paint bottles, and the like will easily fit into the pockets. They are also great for socks and underwear!
6. Another excellent way for keeping a room tidy is to encourage your child to make his/her bed every morning (even young children can do this with the help of a parent). A room always looks tidy when the bed is made.
7. If you can possibly convince your child to part with stuff he/she really doesn't need, such as old art papers or toys that he/she never plays with, this would clear up quite a bit of space in the room as well. (suggest to your child that the toys that are not used be given to needy children)
8. Under the bed storage bags are perfect for storing items that are not needed constantly. They are excellent for storing extra blankets and winter clothes.
9. Putting dividers in dresser drawers makes items easier to find.
10. Buy bedroom furniture that saves space. For example, older children could have a raised bed with a dresser, shelves or a desk underneath it. Furniture such as this can often be used right up until the child is a teenager.
11. Set aside a place for your child's creativity. Use a desk and place a wastebasket and/or a recycling bin underneath it for scraps of paper or bits of leftover craft materials. This way, they won't be scattered all over the floor.
Try out these handy tips for your child's room. You will definitely see a difference! Gone will be the days of chaos and disorganization. Toys will be neatly put away, artwork will become wonderful displays, and clothes will fit into drawers. Your child's room will finally be neat and tidy in no time at all!
